When Inspiration Strikes

When Inspiration Strikes, take notice.........

It was a Saturday afternoon at the house when I stopped inside, dropped down on the couch for a quick break before returning to numerous home projects.  As I sat down I turned on the television to find an interview with Jack Nicholas and Tony Jacklin. At the time, I had not heard of Tony Jacklin but as I listened to his words he quickly became a man i will not soon forget.

Mr. Jacklin won the British Open in 1969 and soon won the US Open the following year in 1970.  In 1985 Tony Jacklin won the Rider Cup as a non-playing captain.  Today Mr. Jacklin is the President and CEO of the Jacklin Design Group working with other greats in the golf world designing and developing Golf courses around the world.  Back to that Saturday afternoon, I was listening and being introduced to Tony Jacklin on television when Tony explained one of his inspirations early in life and it was a simple poem.  A poem he recited from memory.  The words rang so true and it immediately motivated me to find out more about Tony Jacklin and also email him requesting a copy of his poem.

To my surprise Tony returned my email within a couple of days with the poem attached in a word document.  I thanked him for sharing this with me and asked his permission to share with you. Again, he quickly responded wishing me luck with all my endeavors and granting me my wish.

Thank you Mr. Jacklin for sharing! You are an inspiration.

Tony's Inspirational poem-

If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think you dare not, you don't
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't
It's almost a cert you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you've lost
For out in the world you'll find
Success begins in a fellows will
It's all in a state of mind.

Think big and your deeds will grow
Think small and you'll fall behind
Think that you can and you will
It's all in a state of mind.

Life's battles don't always go
to the stronger or faster man
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.
